Ben Harris Impresses on UK Open Debut with Win Over Top-16 Star.

Ben Harris announced himself on the biggest stage with an eye-catching performance at the World Bowls Tour UK Open, marking a memorable debut in one of the sport’s most competitive events.

Harris, who previously appeared twice at the World Championships at Potters Resort, showed composure beyond his experience as he stepped onto the UK Open stage for the first time. Facing a tough opening test, Harris produced one of the performances of the first round by defeating top-16 ranked player Wayne Willgress.

In a tightly contested match, Harris displayed confident drawing and controlled shot selection, keeping his composure during key ends to secure a notable victory against the experienced Willgress. The win marked one of the standout results of the opening round and underlined Harris’ growing reputation as a player capable of challenging the established names in the sport.

The second round presented an even sterner test as Harris faced world number two Jason Banks. Despite a determined effort and several well-constructed ends, Harris was ultimately beaten by the highly ranked Banks, whose experience and consistency proved decisive.

While his run ended in the second round, Harris’ debut appearance at the UK Open was widely regarded as a promising step forward. Defeating a top-16 opponent in his first match and competing strongly against the world number two highlighted both his potential and his ability to perform under pressure.

With two previous appearances at the World Championships at Potters Resort already on his résumé, Harris’ latest showing suggests he is continuing to build valuable experience on the sport’s biggest stages. If his UK Open debut is anything to go by, it may not be long before he progresses even further in future major events.

This week, SIBC players are involved in international matches taking place in Belfast. Representing the club on an international platform is a proud moment and a chance to test skills against the best in the UK.

Emily Kernick and Izzie White will represent England this week as they compete in the Women’s International Series. The tournament brings together some of the top female bowlers from across the British Isles, with Kernick and White earning the honour of wearing the England colours on the international stage.

As well as competing in the international fixtures, the pair will also take part in the prestigious British Isles Fours Championship on Tuesday. Kernick and White will join forces with Hannah Smith and Michelle Meadowcroft as they aim to make an impact in the highly competitive fours event after lifting the English title last year.

He will also compete for the British Isles Men’s Singles title on Wednesday morning, with his match scheduled to begin at 9:30am. The event brings together the National Champions from across the British Isles, making it one of the most competitive singles competitions in the sport.

Representing both their country and their club, the players will be hoping to produce strong performances against some of the best opposition from across the home nations.
